25. Thinking that Meru’s greatness is due to his sheer size, Vindhya started growing his size
26. He increased his size so much that he started blocking the sun’s light. Entire southern part of India entered darkness
27. Devas prayed to Bhagwan siva
a. Bhagwan, the world is in crisis.
b. Vindhya grew so much he is blocking the sun for the Southern Hemisphere
c. Only you can help us.
28. Siva thought for a moment
29. Agastya, please arrive here
30. Agastya arrived in an instant
31. Agastya, Vindhya is blocking the sun. You must go to him and stop him.

b. Blessed you are Vindhya. Your humbleness towards rishis will be remembered forever
41. Agastya and lopamudra passed over Vindhya. They settled in the south but never returned. Vindhya remained bent ever since... awaiting Agastya's return.
42. Humbled for his ego, vindhya still remains the only mountain range to host twin jyotirlingas of Omkareshwar and mamaleswar.
1. நாரத முனிவர் ஒரு சமயத்தில் மலைகளின் மன்னனான விந்தியனைச் சந்திக்க வந்தார்.
2. விந்தியன் நாரதனை வணங்கிய பிறகு, கேள்வி ஒன்று கேட்டான்.

6. நாரதர் சற்று சிந்தித்தார்.
அ. விந்தியனுக்கு தலைக்கனம் கூடிவிட்டது. தலைக்கனத்தால் அவன் அழிவதற்குள் நான் அவனுடைய தலைக்கனத்தை அழித்துவிட வேண்டும்.
ஆ. அப்படியொன்றும் அழகாய் இல்லையே.
7. முனிவரே! என்னைவிட சிறந்த மலை இருப்பதாகச் சொல்கிறீர்களா?
8. விந்தியா, உண்மையில் நீ பெரிய மலைதான். இருந்தாலும், மேருமலை உன்னைவிடப் பெரியது.
அ. அது சிவபெருமானின் புகழிடமாகும்.
ஆ. ஆகையால்தான் நவகிரகங்கள் அனைத்தும் மேருவையேச் சுற்றி வருகின்றன.
9. சந்தேகத்திற்கு இடமில்லாமல் மேருமலை உன்னைவிடப் பெரியதுதான்.
10. மனமுடைந்த விந்தியன் தீவிரமாக சிந்திக்கத் துவங்கினான்.
11. இறுதியாக விந்தியன் சிவபெருமானை நோக்கி தவமிருக்க முடிவு செய்தான்.
12. விந்தியன் காட்டை நோக்கிச் சென்று சிவனை வழிபடத் தொடங்கினான்.
13. இரவு பகலாக யாகங்கள் செய்து சிவனை வழிப்பட்டு வந்தான்.
14. அவனது பக்தியால் ஈர்க்கப்பட்ட சிவபெருமான் அவன் முன்பு தோன்றினார்.
அ. சிவபெருமான்: விந்தியா, நீ என்ன வரம் விரும்புகிறாய்?
ஆ. பெருமானே!, நான் புகழை விரும்புகிறேன்.
15. விந்தியன், இதைப் பொறாமையால் கேட்கிறான் என்பதையும் அவனுக்கு வரம் வழங்குவது உலகிற்குத் துன்பம் விளைவிக்கும் என்பதையும் சிவபெருமான் நன்கு அறிந்திருந்தார்.
அ. விந்தியன், எனது வரங்களால் சமூகத்தினருக்கு எவ்விதத் தீங்கும் விளையாது அல்லது யாரையும் துன்புறுத்துவதற்கு அதைப் பயன்படுத்தமாட்டேன்.
16. தேவர்களும் முனிவர்களும் அங்கே தோன்றினர்.
அ. பெருமானே!, தயவுகூர்ந்து இங்கேயே இருந்துவிடுங்கள்.
17. சிவபெருமான் அங்கேயே ஜோதிர்லிங்கமாகத் தோன்றினார்.
18. சிவபெருமான் தோன்றிய இடத்தில் ஒரு ஜோதிர்லிங்கம் தோன்றியது அது ஓம்கரேஸ்வர் என்று அனைவராலும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
19. விந்தியன் வழிபட்டு வந்த சிவலிங்கம் இரட்டை ஜோதிர்லிங்கமாக மாறி பின்னர் மாமேலேஸ்வரராக பிரபலமானது.
20. விந்தியன் வீட்டிற்கு வந்தான்.
21. இதற்கிடையில், சிவபெருமான் நாரதரை வரவழைத்தார்.
22. இருவரும் உரையாடினர்
அ. பெருமானே! விந்தியனுக்கு தாங்கள் வழங்கிய வரம் அவனது தலைக்கனத்தை அதிக்கப்படுத்துவதோடு நிலமையை மிகவும் மோசமாக்கும்.
ஆ. நாரதரே, அவன் என் பக்தன். அவனைக் காப்பது எனது கடமை.
இ. தலைக்கனம் எப்போதும் மோசமான சூழ்நிலைகளுக்கு வழிவகுக்கும் என்பதை சிவபெருமான் அவனுக்குக் கற்றுத்தர வேண்டும்.
ஈ. அவனுக்குக் கற்பிக்க நீங்கள் எனக்கு உதவ வேண்டும்.
23. என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பதைப் புரிந்துகொண்ட நாரதன் மீண்டும் விந்தியன் வாழும் இடத்திற்கு வந்தார்
அ. விந்தியா, சிவபெருமானிடமிருந்து வரத்தைப் பெற்றதாகக் கேள்விப்பட்டேன்.
ஆ. ஆம் முனிவரே! நான் இனிமேல் ஆர்ய-வர்தாவின் மிகச் சிறந்த மலையாக இருப்பேன், மக்களின் புனிதத் தளமாக விளங்குவேன்.
24. அவர்கள் உரையாடினார்கள்
அ. முனிவரே! , நீங்கள் ஏமார்ந்துவிட்டீர்கள்!
ஆ. விந்தியனே! ஆம், உனது சிறப்பு நிச்சயமாக அதிகரித்துள்ளது.
இ. இருந்தாலும், இன்னும் நவகிரகங்கள் மேரு மலையையே சுற்றி வருகின்றனவே.
25. மேருவின் சிறப்பு அதன் பெரிய தோற்றத்தில் இருப்பதாக நினைத்த விந்தியன் தனது உருவ அளவையும் பெரிதாக்கினான்.
26. அவன் தனது அளவை அதிகரிக்க, அதிகரிக்க, சூரியனின் ஒளியையே தடுக்கத் தொடங்கினான். இந்தியாவின் தென்பகுதி முழுமையும் இருளில் மூழ்கியது.
27. தேவர்கள் சிவபெருமானை வழிபட்டனர்.
அ. பெருமானே, உலகம் மிகவும் இக்கட்டான நிலையில் உள்ளது.
ஆ. விந்தியன் மிகவும் வேகமாக சூரியனையே மறைக்குமளவிற்கு வளர்ந்துகொண்டே வருகின்றான்.
இ. உங்களால் மட்டுமே எங்களைக் காப்பாற்ற முடியும்.
28. சிவபெருமான் ஒரு நிமிடம் சிந்தனை செய்தார்.
29. அகத்திய முனிவரே, வாருங்கள்.
30. அகத்திய முனிவர் உடனடியாகத் தோன்றினார்.
31. அகத்தியரே! விந்தியன் சூரியனையேத் தடுத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றான். நீங்கள் அங்கு சென்று அவனைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்துங்கள்.
32. இதனைப் புரிந்துகொண்ட அகத்தியர் வருத்தமுற்றார்.
33. சிவபெருமான்: அகத்தியா, வருத்தப்படாதே!
அ. நீ தூரத்தில் இருந்தாலும் பார்வதியுடனான எனது திருமணத்தை நீ பார்க்கும்படிக் காட்சி தருகிறேன்.
34. பெருமானே! என்னால் இயன்றவரை முயற்சிக்கிறேன்.
35. அகத்தியரே! உன்னை வாழ்த்துகிறேன். உனது இந்தத் தியாகம் என்றென்றும் மறையாமல் நிலைத்து நிற்கும்.
36. அகத்தியரும் அவரது மனைவி லோபமுத்ராவும் விந்திய மலை நோக்கிப் பயணம் செய்தனர்.
37. விந்தியனே! தானாக முன்வந்துவிடு.
38. விந்தியன் மனித வடிவில் தோன்றினான்.
அ. ஓ முனிவரே! நான் உங்களுக்கு எவ்வாறு உதவ முடியும்?
ஆ. விந்தியா, நாங்கள் தெற்கே ஒரு தீர்த்த யாத்திரைக்கு செல்கிறோம்
இ. எங்களுக்கு வயதாகிவிட்டது. இந்த மிகப்பெரும் மலையை கடந்து செல்லும் ஆற்றல் எங்களுக்கு இல்லை.
39. விந்தியன் பதில் கூறினான்.
அ. அம்மா, சிரமம் ஒன்றும் இல்லை. நான் எனது மலைத்தொடர்களின் அளவைச் சிறியதாக்கிக் கொள்கிறேன்.
ஆ. உங்களால் எளிதில் கடந்து செல்ல முடியும்.
40. மகனே, நாங்கள் வயதானவர்கள். உங்களைப் போன்ற இளையோரிடம் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் உதவி கேட்பது கவலையளிக்கிறது. ஆகவே, நாங்கள் திரும்பி வரும்வரை தயவுசெய்து பெரிதாகிவிடாமல் அப்படியே இருப்பாயாக.
அ. தங்கள் விருப்பப்படியே ஆகட்டும் முனிவரே!
ஆ. விந்தியனே! உன்னை வாழ்த்துகிறோம். முனிவர்கள் மீதான உன் அன்பு என்றென்றும் அழியாமல் மக்கள் மனதில் நிலைத்து நிற்கும்.
41. அகத்தியரும் லோபமுத்ராவும் விந்திய மலையைக் கடந்து சென்று தெற்கில் குடியேறினர், ஆனால் அவர்கள் மீண்டும் திரும்பவே இல்லை. விந்திய மலை அகத்தியரின் வருகைக்காக வளைந்தே இருந்தது.
42. விந்தியனின் தலைக்கனத்தால் இன்றளவும் ஓம்கரேஷ்வர் மற்றும் மாமலேஸ்வரர் என இரட்டை ஜோதிர்லிங்கங்களை இணைக்கும் மலைத்தொடராக அனைவராலும் நினைவு கூறப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.

1. Some Divine mountains can take form. Meru, Himavanta, Mainaka, Gandhamadhana and Vindhya are some such ones
2. Maharshi I am sure it isn’t as great as my mountain ranges
3. Vindhya, among mountains, you are definitely the greatest after Meru.
4. Vindhya, I shall reside on you like nowhere else.
5. But remember, ego is the source of all trouble
6. However, Meru is still the greatest among mountains
7. Vindhya was shocked to learn this

6. எப்படிப் பார்த்தாலும், இன்றுவரை மேருதான் மலைகளில் சிறந்து விளங்குகிறது.
7. இதைக் கேட்ட விந்தியனுக்கு ஒரே அதிர்ச்சி!
8. மலைகளில், தானே மிகச் சிறந்த மலை என்பதை நிரூபிக்க நினைத்த விந்தியன், அபரிவிதமான அளவில் வளர்ந்தான்.
9. அவன் பெரியதாக வளர வளர, சூரியனின் பாதையையே தடுக்கும் அளவிற்கு வளரத் தொடங்கினான்.
